Review: L'Oreal Lash Serum

OKAY!

This is picture heavy, and I might blab, but I want to cover everything!!

The product I tried is the L'Oreal Lash Boosting 24-HourPower System which includes both Lash Boosting Serum and Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara.
$24.99 at Walgreen's

The claims, as per L'oreal's website:

Serum:
Get the lashes of your dreams, with Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum . This breakthrough formula contains Centella Asiatica Extract and Arginine to reinforce, condition, and protect each lash. Apply daily under your Mascara and at night to bare lashes. The result: visibly fuller, thicker natural lashes with less lash fall-out when removing makeup. You won't believe your eyes!

Mascara:
With a serum-enriched Lash Boosting Primer on one end and an ultra-lengthening mascara topcoat on the other, this Lash Boosting duo builds longer, thicker, fuller lashes day after day. Apply the Lash Boosting Primer first to prep lashes and boost their condition, then apply the Ultra-Lengthening Mascara Topcoat for 80% longer lashes instantly. Use with Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum daily for best results.

And supposedly you can see all of these results in just 4 weeks!

I gave it a shot...

Let's talk about the serum and the applicator. Here are some pictures:

The applicator is kind of funny-- it doesn't have any bristles or anything, just a curved piece of flexible plastic. You use the tip to apply the serum to the lash line, like an eyeliner, and use the wand to sweep it root to tip.

The serum didn't irritate my eyes, but I can see where it might for others. You have to be careful to not apply too much because it does take a bit to dry. I've read on another blog that it "glued" the user's eyes together--- I did NOT experience this AT ALL. So don't be afraid! =) In my experience, however, I'd apply it right before you go to sleep-- I would apply it and stay up and read, and it was just hard for me not to wipe my eyes cause they felt wet, haha!

Okay, get ready for some pictures!

Eyelashes, before 4-weeks:

The lashline looks a little thicker than it actually is because there is a little eyeliner residue left over.. sorry-- didn't see that on my little camera screen =\

Lashes AFTER 4 weeks:

Not quite "go without mascara" worthy, but definitely a small improvement!

Okay now this is after 4 weeks-- the Double Extend Mascara:

I like it!! =)

Let me tell you what I noticed. My lashes didn't appear any longer than normal, but they
were thicker. BUT! don't be fooled-- it's NOT because I "grew more lashes," it's simply because my "lash life" was extended (check out this subject in a previous post ;) ).

Basically, your lashes only stay in for a certain amount of days, and when you extend this time then you have more lashes at one time then your normally would, and thus a thicker lash line. That's really what this product does-- it doesn't promise longer lashes because it doesn't have such intense ingredients as products such as Latisse-- which is also why is doesn't have all of those warnings!! The serum just conditions the lash line to promote lash life.

Ta-da!

But honestly, instead of spending $24.99 on a set that may or may not show much of a difference, I would just find a really great mascara+primer. I have to admit the mascara in this set is really great!! I was never a fan of the Double Extend line, but this one really adds nice volume-- just see pics above!

What do you think? Will you try this? Any products like this?

Leave me some feedback!! =)

Until next time~

  1. Wow, that mascara does look fabulous! I once purchased Peter Thomas Roth's Lashes to Die For conditioning treatment at $125 a pop, and then promptly returned it the next morning, 'cause I was insane to think even for a second that lengthening/thickening my lashes was worth that much! I am in agreement with you, a good primer/mascara totally does just as well.

For Christmas, I got Sephora's LashStash Deluxe Samper with 10 mini mascaras, which I'm especially enjoying 'cause I never wore much mascara before (I'm loving Urban Decay's Skyscraper and Benefit's BadGal)! Do you have a certain mascara that you prefer everyday, or are you still searching?

  2. Hey there!!
Isn't that mascara great? I was actually rather sad at the first thought of having to wear it for 4 weeks-- and then I put it on and was like "Whoa!"
I know what you mean about spending money-- I seriously considered Latisse because of the results but man... I just can't spend that much!
I'm jealous of your Sephora set! I've been eyeing it since Christmas, haha! Maybe the next time I come across some money I'll treat myself lol. I've always wanted to try BadGal!
As for my fave mascara-- I obviously am always trying new ones, but my favorite to use everyday is L'Oreal's Voluminous. I'm quite demanding of my mascara, and this adds great volume and even length (if you're willing to be trick-sy with the wand lol) and doesn't clump if you spend just a few more seconds with it. (And btw, it's on sale for $5 at Target this week!) But like I said, I'm always trying new mascara haha! =)
Thank you so much for you feedback!!
